Montreal, February 11, 2019 - The Technoscience Network is launching a brand new mentoring system online in collaboration with the Federation of Professional Staff of Universities and Research (FPPU).
Free, this system is intended for all young people who are preparing a Hydro-Québec Science Fair project and who are looking for a little help. Support can take different forms depending on the needs of the student and the availability of the mentor, including:
- E-mail exchange;
- Phone call;
- Visit to the laboratory to carry out an experiment.
The system already existed on the old Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec website, but it no longer met the needs of exhibitors and mentors. It has therefore been deleted and completely revised to make it more accessible.
“Our partnership with the FPPU for the development of SOS Mentor is the ideal collaboration for this kind of system. Their members are passionate about research and they make excellent mentors. Obviously, the system is open to the entire scientific community to become a mentor. I invite young people to register to benefit from support for their Expo-sciences project ”, underlines Marthe Poirier, Executive Director of the Technoscience Network.
"This learning tool fits in with the mission of our federation, which supports the next generation in research in several ways," adds Bernard Gaucher, president of the FPPU. Our members work in ten universities and affiliated centers across Quebec. They are well placed to give the bite of science. "
Wanted advice: mentors
The Technoscience Network and the FPPU invite all professionals in the scientific community to register as a mentor. You do not need to be a member of the FPPU to become a mentor. All it takes is expertise in science or technology combined with a healthy dose of passion.
Exhibitors: find your mentor
Students who are working on a Science Fair project or are already thinking about their next topic are also invited to create today their mentee profile. If they have difficulty finding a mentor, they can count on the intervention of the chief mentor to help them.
Have a great Hydro-Québec Science Fair season
As of March, the regional finals season begins everywhere in Quebec. Consult the calendar to find all the information about the final in your region.
Thank you to the Expo-sciences partners
