Experience the Rio Paralympic Games in the classroom with the support of the Canadian Paralympic Committee

If the last Summer Olympic Games took place outside the school period, this is not the case for the Paralympic component! This will be an opportunity to discuss multiple subjects with the students, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee offers adapted educational activities for this purpose.

If the last Summer Olympic Games took place outside the school period, this is not the case for the Paralympic component! This will be an opportunity to discuss multiple subjects with the students, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee offers adapted educational activities for this purpose.

The Rio Paralympic Games will begin on September 7, 2016. The Canadian Paralympic Committee is offering a new series of educational activities that aim to recreate the excitement of Rio in the classroom. There are three sets of lesson plans specifically designed for:

  • 1time to 3e primary year Activities include Paralympic themed coloring pages, cooperative games and tons of information on several Paralympic sports.
  • 4e to 6e primary year : Students will familiarize themselves with several specialized Paralympic sports equipment, discover the host city, Rio de Janeiro, and meet athletes from Team Canada.
  • 7e and 8e year (1time and 2e year of secondary school) : Students will trace the history of the Paralympic movement, discover a Paralympic sport of their choice and learn more about the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

These activities can be downloaded free of charge in PDF format at paralympic.ca/activities-plans. Some even invite the use of ICT. The notebooks include many portraits of inspiring athletes.

Canada will send approximately 160 athletes to compete in 19 sports at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, September 7-18. The full Canadian Paralympic team will be officially announced on August 29. For information on Team Canada, visit Paralympic.ca/rio2016
