The organization responds to a need since half of the questions addressed to it over the past five years concerned scientific disciplines.
Hello teacher, active in the education sector since 1996, is a learning support service for elementary and secondary students as well as their parents. Accessible by different means, teachers answer students' questions about homework and different learning exercises. The organization also makes available to the educational community many free resources, such as tools, exercises and a digital library. To date, two centers were in service, one in Montreal, the other in Quebec.
On April 19, Allô prof announced the launch of a third virtual help center, located in Saguenay. This new center will specialize in science and will aim to meet a growing need on the part of the community to obtain support in this area. In comments reported by the daily La Presse, Sandrine Faust, director of the organization, affirms that half of the questions addressed to Allo prof over the past five years concerned scientific disciplines.
The new center was created to meet this growing demand and will specialize in chemistry, physics and biology. Students and their parents who have difficulty in these subjects or who need clarification to complete an assignment or exercises can easily access qualified teachers from the comfort of their own home. According to data released in the press release from the website of the Premier of Quebec, the centre's services will be provided by around fifteen teachers specializing in science.
Over the years, Allô prof has been able to adapt to the realities of the educational environment as well as to the reality of the students. While services were once accessible only by telephone, they are now accessible using technology, to the benefit of users. For example, a student can post a question on a discussion board and get a written response from a teacher quickly. It is even possible to obtain learning aid via text messaging.
All the services offered by the organization are free.
