Press release - In recognition of the remarkable commitment and dedication of the pillars of education and higher education in Quebec, 44 new personalities joined the ranks of the Ordre de l'excellence en éducation du Québec today.

At an official ceremony held at the end of the day in Quebec City, the Minister of Education, Mr. Jean-François Roberge, decorated the 44 new members of the classes of 2019 and 2021 who have distinguished themselves by their significant contribution to the education and higher education networks.

The College, created in 2018, already has 54 members, distinguished members and emeritus members, as well as 10 members of the College Council, who were responsible for advising the Minister on the appointment of the selected individuals to one of the College's titles, following calls for nominations in 2019 and 2021.

The recipients of this second and third promotion of the Order are presented in the annex to this press release. It should be recalled that the ceremony to decorate the recipients of the 2019 edition had been postponed due to the pandemic context and that the 2020 edition did not take place, for the same reason.

"Valuing the teaching profession and all those involved in the school system is one of my priorities as well as that of our government. Regardless of their field of expertise, from early childhood to university, the personalities honoured today have played or are still playing a very important role in Quebec society. They are united by many commonalities and a collective mission: to build our knowledge, to value our knowledge and to transmit it to future generations. I thank them for their ongoing dedication and commitment to the academic success and education of all Quebecers.

Jean-François Roberge, Minister of Education

"In Quebec, we are fortunate to be able to count on exceptional people who make education and higher education shine. We must say it loud and clear so that they are recognized and that as many people as possible follow in their footsteps. These people are without a doubt the most powerful energy we have in Quebec."

Danielle McCann, Minister of Higher Education

  • Inspired by the Ordre des Palmes académiques, instituted in France in 1808 by Napoleon, the Ordre de l'excellence en éducation du Québec officially recognizes the merit of those who have played or are still playing an important role in the field of education.
  • This event, whose motto is Their success, our dutyis to :
    • To recognize the merit of those who work in the field of education;
    • to promote the significant local, regional or national contributions of the actors of the education system;
    • contribute to the influence of the education system.
  • The Order is open to people from all levels of education, from early childhood to university, in both the public and private sectors, as well as to people who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of education in all regions. It is composed of three grades: Member, Distinguished Member and Emeritus Member.
  • A public call for nominations was issued last fall, after which the College Council recommended to the Ministers the appointments for this third class.
