Volunteers needed for study on PIRLS test reports

Primary school teachers, educational advisers and remedial teachers are invited to complete a short online questionnaire. This aims to evaluate various formats of diagnostic reports of the PIRLS test, in order to improve their future presentation.

"The research may contribute to providing finer and more detailed information on the cognitive strengths and weaknesses of the students other than their global scores through diagnostic reports that are understandable and interpretable by the teachers", explains Dan Thanh Duong Thi, doctoral student at the Faculty of Education of the University of Montreal.

As part of the research, she worked with a panel of experts to develop three formats of diagnostic reports for teachers based on the profile of a Canadian student who took the PIRLS test in 2011. She then constructed a questionnaire to evaluation of these three reporting formats.

The question sheet consists of 24 multiple-choice questions dealing, among other things, with the quality of the reports and the teachers' understanding of their content. The time to answer the questionnaire is estimated at approximately 30 minutes.

The questionnaire is available online until February 12, 2017.

"Your participation in the project will make it possible to meet the great demands of teachers to receive diagnostic information from large-scale test results such as the case of the PIRLS 2011 test and to fill the gap in diagnostic reports intended for teachers by taking into account their active participation. in the process of drafting and evaluating the reports," says the student.

This is one of the stages in the realization of his thesis entitled " Modeling and development of reports for diagnostic purposes of the PIRLS 2011 test data », under the direction of Nathalie Loye, professor at the Faculty. This research is part of a project in partnership with Brisson-Legris, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
