As part of the dissemination of a series of portraits of companies that are members of the Edteq Association (Enterprises for the development of educational technologies in Quebec), it is our pleasure today to present Baobab Education to you!

The baobab is the palaver tree, where African communities meet to solve problems, exchange, share and make decisions. It was after their visit to Africa that Emmanuelle Allard, plastic arts teacher, and Steeve Lemay, author of textbooks in mathematics, took inspiration from this majestic tree to found Baobab Education.

We want, through our learning situations, to help students become informed citizens, able to understand the world around them. We also value exchanges on problematic situations so that they become good citizens and get positively involved in their community.
- Steeve Lemay, co-founder of Baobab Éducation.

This is how Baobab Education's first interactive books were born!

The school textbook is dead! Long live the interactive digital manual!

According to Steeve Lemay, who has written and published more than twenty textbooks and as many teaching guides, " the school textbook still has its place in the classroom. But with the presence of new technologies, the textbook must be redesigned and designed differently. Textbooks must be interactive, dynamic and open to the world. We are no longer in the days of compartmentalized and static content presented between two hard covers. We thought of reinventing the school textbook. On the one hand, teachers can find all the content they need in one place. On the other hand, students can now enjoy a dynamic textbook featuring audio and video tapes, virtual manipulations, engaging animations, automatic corrections, direct links to the web and more. "

Engaging learning situations

The textbooks published by Baobab Education are of course attractive and captivating. But for Baobab Education, it is thanks to the pedagogical approach recommended by the authors and the use of relevant learning situations that interactive digital books capture the interest of students. Thus, in Passep'Art, the virtual meeting with living contemporary artists addresses current issues in the arts and in society. The creation of a tree from recyclable materials, for example, questions the impact of waste on nature and on our environment.

Likewise, in the collection Mathventure Where problem-solving and learning activities predominate, mathematical concepts become tools for understanding sports strategies, art, music, architecture, board games, etc.

The use of new technologies in the classroom, when used correctly, is a powerful tool in fostering learning. It also brings down the classroom walls and opens the minds of young learners to the world.
It's a big challenge, and you have to focus on the quality of the content.
- Steeve Lemay, co-founder of Baobab Éducation.

On the road to success

It is always pleasant to see small Quebec businesses recognized outside our borders, and Baobab Education is one of them. Thus, it is with pride that Baobab Education has received several awards and nominations in the United States for categories such as Best Textbook, Author of the Year, App of the Week, and more recently in the category Cool Tool of The Edtech Awards for Mathventure for 4th Grade. “We even had to add a section to our website, just to announce these recognitions from the education community! »- Steeve Lemay proudly clarifies, smiling.
