With the new Allô prof site, there are no more excuses not to do your homework! This free service, available for ten years, has had a makeover. In addition to telephone help services, cyber classes, explanatory forums and virtual library, Allô prof now offers video clips as well as interactive games and exercises.
“Our site has been completely redone! »Exclaims Sandrine Faust, executive director of the organization. Indeed, the old version of the site seemed to appeal to primary school students, while the clientele is now mostly at the secondary level. “We didn't have enough space for students to express themselves. The new site is better suited to Web 2.0, ”notes Sandrine Faust. Indeed, one can find there an increased space for comments and opinion polls in order to improve the site.
The "videos" section has also increased its offer in an impressive way: there are now more than a hundred capsules. When a student stumbles on a question in an assignment, they can watch a free video in which a teacher demonstrates the technique for approaching their problem. We see, for example, a system of equations, a past participle chord or a geometry lesson… as well as the procedure to follow to find the answer! Each video extract therefore allows the student to better understand a concept and to apply it in his homework.
We also find on the site of Allô prof four interactive games in addition to fifteen learning exercises. FinLapin, the most popular game on the former Allô prof site, is now enhanced with a multiplayer feature. Thus, students can practice their multiplication online alone or with friends, remotely.
The need for renewal
Since 2006, Allô prof has been facing an annual increase of 40 % in requests addressed to it. Last year alone, the non-profit organization responded to 500,000 requests from students across Quebec.
“All these young people have their studies at heart. They demonstrate it to us night after night. This is why it is so important to offer them tools that help them overcome their difficulties at school, ”explains the general manager of Allô prof. By renewing the website and its range of services, Allô prof hopes to extend its mission: to go where young people and parents are, in order to support school perseverance.
Allô prof's new website is online now, at www.alloprof.qc.ca.
