News Release (UNICEF Canada) - November 20 is National Child Day. Now is the time to act to promote the well-being of children in Canada and around the world.

To mark this day, UNICEF Canada launched the initiative Invite your MP at your school, in order to create a link between the young people of the country and their elected representatives. During the week of November 12-16, MPs will visit their constituency schools - several of these schools are part of our Rights-Respecting Schools and participate in National UNICEF Day - to meet with young leaders of tomorrow and better understand the issues that matter to them.

The relationship between Members of Parliament and their constituents is at the heart of Parliament's representational function. Engaging in dialogue with children and young people, who generally represent a quarter of the population, helps inform decisions concerning this segment of the population, which is often vulnerable but does not vote, and promotes civic education of our youngest citizens.
