British Columbia announces new education savings grant

TORONTO, March 8, 2013 / CNW / - The Company Heritage Education Fund is pleased to announce that the BC provincial government is offering a new Education and Training Savings Grant to help more families save for their children's post-secondary education.

In essence, the BC Education and Training Savings Grant would only be available to Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) holders and would be a lump sum of $ 1,200. No matching contribution or additional is required to receive the grant. In addition, only RESP beneficiaries who are under the age of six and who are residents of British Columbia will be eligible for this grant. The only conditions to be fulfilled are toopen an RESP account and submit the grant application before the designated child's seventh birthday.

In its official announcement of the proposal on February 19, 2013, the Government of British Columbia stated that “starting this year, families whose children are eligible and who open or already have an RESP will receive from the Government of Colombia -British a letter confirming the deposit of 1,200 $ in their RESP, once the administrative structure of this new program is in place ”. The government also explained that it has partnered with the federal government to establish a banking and information processing system to ensure that these grants will only be used to fund post-secondary education.
