Dare to science and discover the 125 best projects in Quebec!

Sorel-Tracy, April 22, 2016 - Today is the start of the Super Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec, the 2016 Quebec final at the Aurèle-Racine curling club in Sorel-Tracy in Montérégie. Young and old are invited to come and discover Quebec's 125 best scientific projects free of charge. Carried out by young people aged 12 to 20, the projects presented in the context of the Quebec final were selected during the Expo-sciences Hydro-Quebec, regional finals that took place in March and April of this year.

The exhibition site will be accessible to the public on the following days:

  • Friday, April 22 between 9:15 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. - Meet the illusionist Luc Langevin
  • Saturday, April 23 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. and between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 24 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

The event will end with an awards ceremony at the gymnasium of Bernard-Gariépy High School from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday April 24.

Innovation and creativity at the rendezvous

Thanks to their participation in a local final and a regional final of the Expo-sciences, the young exhibitors will know how to brilliantly present their project to the whole family.

“The Hydro-Québec Science Fair is first and foremost a place where young people can meet and proudly share their discoveries with their classmates, parents and friends. »Emphasizes Mr. Pierre-Luc Desgagné, Vice-President Corporate Affairs and Secretary General at Hydro-Québec.

“Visit the Super Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec, Quebec final, it's going to meet a surprising new generation! It is impossible not to be impressed by exhibitors under the age of 20 who have devised a process to make seawater drinkable, developed an application to prevent texting while driving and which offers us insects for dinner! The CDLS-CLS Network is proud to use its expertise to allow the next generation of scientists to surpass themselves, ”emphasizes Ms. Marthe Poirier, Deputy Director General of the CDLS-CLS Network and responsible for the Science Fair program.

250,000 $ in prizes to reward the work of the next generation

On Sunday April 24, this is an invitation to attend the awarding of 250,000 $ in prizes during the award ceremony to be held at 1:30 pm in the gymnasium of the Fernand-Lefebvre secondary school. Note that the ceremony will also be available via webcast starting at 1 p.m. at exposciences.qc.ca.

The winning project will receive the Hydro-Québec First Prize along with a grant of 1,500 $ (the grant will be doubled if the winning project is a duo). This award is accompanied by a trophy and a trip to James Bay.

During the ceremony, the exhibitors selected to make up the Quebec delegation, sponsored by Merck Canada Inc., to the Canada-Wide Science Fair will be unveiled. The delegation will travel to Montreal, McGill University from May 15 to 20. Three exhibitors will also be chosen to participate in the MILSET International Science Fair to be held in August 2017 in Brazil.
