The social network Twitter celebrated its 10th anniversary this week. On March 21, 2006, co-founder Jack Dorsey posted the first tweet, still available: “Creating my twitter account. "

At the end of the activities, the student will be able to:

- Discover key facts about Twitter;
- Identify outstanding messages made by various personalities;
- Compare Twitter with another social media of your choice;
- Think about the future of Twitter.


Suggested Activities

ACTIVITY 1: The history of Twitter

First, ask students if they have a Twitter account. Do they regularly consult this social network? What are they doing on Twitter? What do they know about the origin of this medium?

Tell students that Twitter turned 10 on March 21.
Since 2006, what have been the changes and highlights of this social network according to them? To find out, as a whole class, position each element on the timeline:

ACTIVITY 2: Significant tweets

Before starting the activity, ask students if they can name some very active people on Twitter.

Next, invite students to retrace significant moments on Twitter.
To do this, present the following image to students and ask them to search the web to identify the subject or context of the post posted on Twitter.

ACTIVITY 3: Social media comparison

Invite students to compare Twitter with a social media of their choice (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, etc.).

They will have to find various information on the web and then present it using a comparative diagram.

Here are some examples of data that could be presented:

- Number of members
- Share price
- Turnover
- Number of publication each day
- Type of income
- Etc.
