A community dedicated to using Twitter in the classroom

To embark on the Twitter adventure with your students, it has already been done for some, it will happen this year for others, it is simmering for some and it seems completely outlandish for many! However, these four types of teachers can now come together in a common place to go deeper into the whole.

To embark on the Twitter adventure with your students, it has already been done for some, it will happen this year for others, it is simmering for some and it seems completely outlandish for many! However, these four types of teachers can now come together in a common place to go deeper into the whole.

Twitter, it is a “directory of collaborative educational projects using Twitter”. It is above all an interest group on Facebook which brings together French-speaking teachers from here and elsewhere in order to participate in educational projects of Twitter and to find support (technical and moral! ) by peers.

In this group, we find in particular an evolving list of educational projects linked to Twitter. Examples already announced for this year:

  • MyClass2016 : a project that invites Twittclasses to get to know each other at the start of the year, to create links and discuss digital citizenship;
  • REFER 2017 Twitter Contest, which will take place in January 2017;
  • Listen to read the world : a global interactive reading 2.0 project that takes place every year in the fall. The 2016 edition will take place from October 3 to November 11;
  • AnimeStory3 : international collaborative writing project including the 3e edition will run from early January to late February 2017.

In addition to ideas for projects to join, this group contains resources such as a directory of " Twittclasses ".

Why would anyone want to use Twitter in the classroom?

The question was recently asked in this public group. Among the answers, we suggest:

  • "Many projects are proposed on Twitter for classes each year";
  • “Twitter offers students the opportunity to write and be read on a daily basis, to be in communication with other French-speaking classes around the world, to communicate with book authors, to participate in collaborative projects, to show the world (including their parents!) what is happening in their classroom ”;
  • "As the writings are short, the correction is fast (the pupils appreciate)";
  • “The 140-character constraint forces students to work on sentence structures and synonyms. And since we don't publish anything as long as there are mistakes, we work on pride and the importance of writing well ”;
  • “It's a good way to educate young people about responsible and positive use of social media. It allows them to see other possibilities of technology than games. "
