👀 Background

Traumatic and appalling events like what happened in Old Quebec on Halloween night 2020 or in Laval in October 2015 demonstrate the unpredictability and danger that a few very severe cases of mental health can represent for society. Can we foresee or predict these acts of unheard-of violence?

“Without drawing a direct parallel between the events in Quebec and the pandemic, the Dst Grou pointed out that 86% members of the Order have observed an increase in psychological distress in their patients since last spring. "

Elements of the program:
Objectives of the activities :

Have students research the main categories of mental illness (anxiety disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, childhood disorders, personality disorders, dementia). Inform them that they will become experts on one type of illness in small working teams and that a large group plenary will be held at the end of the period to share everyone's new knowledge.

To start their research, offer them this web page of the Canadian Mental Health Association. They will also find just here several PDF files of additional information on mental health.

Distribute to students this consignment grid in order to register the information collected.

Conclude the activity by having the teams present their findings to the class or remotely using a Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Genially presentation, for example.
