The VI O2 Max project comes to life at Fernand-Seguin and Timoniers high schools

More than 80 students, parents, teachers, stakeholders, commissioners and community representatives participated in the official launch of the Vi O2 Max project on Wednesday November 3 at Fernand-Seguin school.

La Prairie, November 8, 2010 - About forty young people from Fernand-Séguin schools in Candiac and Timoniers in Sainte-Catherine have been selected to participate in Vi O2 Max, a project that combines physical activity and academic perseverance. More than 80 students, parents, teachers, stakeholders, commissioners and community representatives participated in the official launch of the Vi O2 Max project on Wednesday November 3 at Fernand-Seguin school.

Vi O2 Max is a running training program that aims for academic perseverance by developing in young people personal discipline, a sense of effort, a sense of responsibility and good self-esteem. Thus, for 30 weeks, the 40 or so selected students will train to meet the challenge of running 15 km at the Gérard Côté Challenge next May.

To help them go all the way, to surpass themselves and to experience a great sense of pride, the young people are paired with mentors, that is to say teachers of English, French, physical education and physical education. 'other disciplines having at heart school perseverance and physical activity. These will accompany, support and guide them throughout the various stages of the project which include in particular:

- Three workouts per week, two at school and one at home, for 30 weeks.
- A 5 km race at the Santa Claus Race on December 4th.
- The highlight, the 15 km race of the Gérard Côté Challenge on May 8, 2011.

Vi O2 Max is a joint project of the Commission scolaire des Grandes-Seigneuries and the CSSS Jardins-Roussillon. Eighteen students from École des Timoniers are paired with six teacher mentors while 31 students from École Fernand-Seguin benefit from the support of seven mentors.
