Press release - The Collège des Compagnons announces its membership in the Quebec Network of Entrepreneurial and Environmental Schools (RQÉEE) and launched the Secondary 5 course Media Universe, a unique course in Quebec, the implementation of which is the result of this partnership with the RQÉEE. This cooperation makes the College of Companions the first school
secondary school in the Capitale-Nationale where entrepreneurship experienced on a daily basis will be integrated into the PROTIC program in an innovative educational framework focused on the acquisition of collaborative skills and entrepreneurial values through complex and authentic projects.
PROTIC and the College of Companions
Our College of Companions, a school in the Sainte-Foy-Sillery borough, has a solidly established technological and entrepreneurial reputation: the PROTIC program has been deployed there for 15 years now. The success of PROTIC is well documented; see the “Research and Publications” section of the program website.
This program, unique in Quebec, where more than 420 students have their own laptops from Secondary 1 to 5, its model focuses on teamwork, collaboration, multidisciplinarity, student entrepreneurship and the realization of authentic projects. . Throughout the five years of secondary school, PROTIC students develop essential pre-college skills, in particular project management oriented towards academic excellence and success, which characterize the best schools in Quebec. So, whether it's making a television show (Web-TV), designing websites, making a movie, creating a media product and more, students of the
PROTIC are at the heart of their learning.
The media universe in the era of entrepreneurship
Although PROTIC has adopted an entrepreneurial pedagogy since its creation, the Media Universe course is intended to be both the culmination and integration of entrepreneurial skills developed throughout secondary school.
As part of this unique course, Secondary V students are called upon to use media and technology to respond to real demands. The mode of operation of this course is resolutely entrepreneurial: the clients, whether they are from the College of Companions or from the community, submit their needs, their requests and their constraints to the students who must fulfill the contracts using ICT. The Media Universe course works on the model of a small graphic design or multimedia integration company. It challenges students to create logos, websites, and graphic and media productions to meet different needs of real customers.
It is this symbiosis between innovation, advanced technologies and entrepreneurial pedagogy, of which the Media Universe course set up at PROTIC is the culmination, that prompted the RQÉEE to make the Collège des Compagnons its only pilot school.
The RQÉEE, a major partner
The Quebec Network of Entrepreneurial and Environmental Schools (RQÉEE) is a major partner in supporting the success of projects initiated by PROTIC and the Collège des Compagnons. Founded in 1999 by large private partners, the RQÉEE now deploys its network in 70 primary schools and 14 secondary schools, aiming to partner with 100 primary and secondary schools by 2015. Supported by MELS, SAJ and MDEIE1 , this network, well established in 16 administrative regions of Quebec, works in partnership with schools to support initiatives
entrepreneurial and environmental students.
Several of the RQÉEE's global orientations are in direct line with PROTIC and its Media Universe course: development of the entrepreneurial spirit, accountability, innovation, leadership, etc. It is by sharing their mutual resources and creating contacts between their respective networks that the RQÉEE, PROTIC and the College of Companions see major benefits for the projects that students carry out in the Media Universe course, over the five years of the program. PROTIC and throughout the College of Companions.
This partnership between the RQÉEE, the Collège des Compagnons and the PROTIC program is supported by the Commission scolaire des Découvreurs.
