The international congress EXECUTIVE SKILLS AND SCHOOL LEARNING: INTERVENING will be held in Montreal from October 2 to 4, 2019 at the Hôtel Universel. This event aims to promote links between cognitive neurosciences on attention, executive functions and educational intervention.
This congress is aimed at school and rehabilitation workers: teachers, remedial teachers, specialist educators, psychologists, neuropsychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychoeducators, social workers, educational advisers… in short, all the professionals who work directly with young people.
Thematic days
During the pre-congress on October 2, the participant will have the choice between three one-day workshops on the themes of attention management, emotion management and error management. Our speakers come from France and Belgium. It is :
Jean-Philippe Lachaux
Neurobiologist, researcher in cognitive neurosciences and research director in cognitive neurosciences within the Inserm “Brain Dynamics and Cognition” unit in Lyon. He is the author of three books on attention. During his pre-conference workshop, he will detail the ATOLE program, a school-based attention education program inspired by neurosciences and developed in French elementary schools. It will be a question of the “philosophy” of the program as well as its development and practical implementation at the national level, as well as its extension, which is currently being developed for adolescents. Alexandra Volckaert
After having practiced for 5 years as a neuropsychologist in a hospital environment, Alexandra Volckaert specializes in the field of cognitive development of young children, and more particularly the neuropsychological management of the executive functions of children with typical and atypical development, by putting developed an intervention targeting inhibitory capacities. She is continuing her research into stimulating executive functions in preschool and school-aged children, combining this with the stimulation of socioemotional skills.
During her workshop, she will approach the management of emotions and impulsivity through theoretical concepts, but you will leave above all with concrete examples of games, supports, stories or crafts to do with children to help them better understand the emotions, and better manage their impulsivity. How and when to discuss emotions with children? What is a good game? How to teach children to manage their behavior? are a few examples of questions you will find an answer to.
Michele Mazeau
Rehabilitation doctor, Michèle Mazeau has always practiced neuropsychology, that is to say the study, diagnosis and rehabilitation of cognitive functions (language, memories, praxies, attention, etc.), and in particular infant neuropsychology. (the dys-). She has practiced in Parisian hospitals and SESSAD, and has published several books to share her experience both in the field of diagnosis, rehabilitation and aid in the education of these young people. Currently, it devotes itself to the training of the professionals concerned and offers conferences for the general public on the topic of dys-. At her pre-conference workshop, she will talk to us about the management of learning errors.
Conferences on educational interventions and practices
About the congress of October 3 and 4, participants will attend 8 90-minute lectures on pedagogical interventions and practices using executive skills for cognitive remediation. Also, educational software and games will be presented. Our speakers come from Quebec, France, Belgium and Spain.
