? The Context

Remembrance Day ceremonies are held all around Canada on November 11 each year. It commemorates the 1918 Armistice. In Ottawa, one of these ceremonies is customarily held close to the National War Memorial.

Despite the fact that the armistice that ended World War One in 1918 was signed more than a century ago, it wasn't until 1931 that the federal government declared November 11 to be Remembrance Day, a day set aside to honour those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
