To promote healthy eating and regular physical activity, Kino-Québec this week launched the 2011 Active School competition. Participating schools have the chance to get their hands on financial assistance of up to 2,000 $ to carry out a new project or improve an existing one.

The projects presented may concern the planning, organization or animation of physical activities, safety and ethics in sports activities and healthy eating.

In the past, this competition has notably allowed the installation of basketball hoops in a schoolyard, visits to the municipal swimming pool for children to receive workshops on water safety, the presentation of cooking workshops and the organization of a health congress.

In total, 175,000 $ will be distributed in elementary and secondary establishments throughout the province of Quebec.

Other prices

A visit to the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie caravan will also be drawn among the primary schools that have submitted a project. In addition, a workshop on food hosted by nutritionist Julie DesGroseilliers or a fruity banquet will be drawn among all participating schools. Another draw will win 25 annual family cards for Quebec's national parks.

The registration form must be sent by April 17th at the latest. The schools chosen will have until March 31, 2012 to carry out their project.
