Quebec, June 10, 2013. - The seventeenth national gala of the competition Hats off, girls! and its shutter Excels Science was held on June 10 at the National Assembly, in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr. Pierre Duchesne. Coming from all regions of Quebec, 57 women were honored because of their choice of a traditionally male profession.
“By daring to think outside the box, these young women are a source of inspiration for many Quebeckers who are keen to build their professional lives according to their tastes and abilities. I wish them every success in pursuing their higher education and a career that matches their ambitions, ”Mr. Duchesne emphasized.
“Bravo to all the winners who believed in their dream. Through their efforts to achieve their goals, these young women are role models for those who follow them, ”said Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports, Mr.me Marie Malavoy, who could not be present at the event. “It is essential that all young people have the opportunity to finish their school career with a diploma in hand that will allow them to achieve professional fulfillment. This is what they can get by opting for vocational training or post-secondary education, ”she continued.
Since its creation by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport 17 years ago, this competition has resulted in the participation of more than 10,000 candidates. The gala follows the ceremonies held in each of the regions last spring. The national winners were chosen from among all the regional winners.
In a message to all the participants, the spokesperson for the event, the comedian and businesswoman Marie-Lise Pilote underlined the approach of each of the participants, whether they won or not: “Bravo to all those who took part in the competition. You are part of the big family of Hat, girls!. I hope that the approach you took by registering for the competition made you realize that you are go-getters, girls who have daring, girls who are ready to demonstrate that with determination, we can go far! "
Competition Hats off, girls!
Remember that the competition Hats off, girls! aims to promote the diversification of career choices for young girls and women and to encourage those who think outside the box to persevere until they graduate. The competition, which takes place in all regions of Quebec, is aimed at students in vocational training at the secondary level and in technical training at the college level. In addition to the national winners, there are more than 200 regional winners this year.
Shutter Excels Science
For their part, university students in science or engineering disciplines can participate in the Excels Science of the competition, and has been for 13 years. This year, 21 future engineers and scientists received a prize. Since its creation, the component Excels Science awarded some 319 women, giving science and technology a different face.
